Now Katie Couric is commenting on the working mom balancing act. In today’s New York Times, she discusses managing life at work and home as the anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News. Couric says she is still adjusting to her new job. “I have the same struggles that all working mothers have,” she claims. SAME STRUGGLES??
I’m not saying I don’t feel bad for Couric. Being a single mom with a demanding job must be hard and frustrating at times. I’m sure she feels the guilt we all do if we don’t get home in time to put the kids to bed. But let’s put this quote in context- a struggle for Katie isn’t exactly the struggle of the average working woman. It’s yet another example of a celeb mom trying to relate to the rest of us working stiffs. I just can’t relate.

Ok ok – i usually agree with you but this time i think you’re being too tough. personally, celebrity or not — rich or poor — i think motherhood is the big fat equalizer. Sure, she has help — but we all do. for some of us it’s parents or husbands. for others a village. and others a nanny — we ALL have help and support systems. if we don’t – it’s our own fault. i am SURE katie struggles with the balance. i tihnk to say she doesn’t because she has money or help is unfair. personally, it makes me feel better to know she struggles too.

I hear ya, I knew this would get backlash. I think I’m just getting burnt out of all the celeb moms on the working mother-balance circuit of late. I like much better hearing about working mom balance from executives at companies rather than celebs who’ve lived the dream for so long.
